Fiz uma inscrição para  um curso sobre Epidemiologia no site Coursera, um dos melhores sites especializados nos MOOCS ( Massive Open online Courses) .São cursos totalmente gratuitos de Universidades prestigiadas do mundo todo.Fantástico site com cursos em vários segmentos do conhecimento.

Os cursos são ministrados em inglês porém possuem legendas em inglês.Ótimo para treinar o idioma e conseguir um certificado de atividades extra curriculares ao mesmo tempo !
Já existem vários cursos também com legendas em português, vale a pena fazer uma busca no site.Eu gosto de fazer em inglês para treinar a língua, como tenho muito a aprender em inglês ainda, acabo associando os dois estudos.
Achei o curso interessante para eu fazer nesse momento pois vou ter Vigilância em Saúde e Epidemiologia certamente será um dos assuntos a ser debatido dentro da disciplina.

Ano passado realizei o Care of Elders with Alzheimer's Disease and other Major Neurocognitive Disorders, achei muito bom. As aulas foram muito interessantes e os estudos de casos contribuiram  para a assimilação dos conceitos. Foi meu primeiro certificado em um curso no qual as aulas foram 100 % em inglês e alcancei um score de 86% de acerto, fiquei muito feliz com meu progresso na compreensão do idioma.

Epidemiology:The Basic Science of Public Health

This course explores public health—both locally and globally—through the lens of epidemiology.

About the course

Often called “the cornerstone” of public health, epidemiology is the study of the distribution and determinants of diseases, health conditions, or events among populations and the application of that study to control health problems. By applying the concepts learned in this course to current public health problems and issues, students will  understand the practice of epidemiology as it relates to real life and makes for a better appreciation of public health programs and policies. This course explores  public health issues like cardiovascular and infectious diseases – both locally and globally –through the lens of epidemiology. 

 Topic areas we will cover include the following:

• Overview and history of epidemiology and public health and the population perspective
• Measures of disease occurrence (incidence and prevalence)
• Study designs and measures of association
• Basic introduction to causal inference

Recommended Background

This course is for anyone interested in learning about public health and epidemiology. No background is required; all are welcome! This introductory course is targeted towards a broad audience of English speaking adult and young adult learners at a level such that it would be suitable for anyone capable of performing at-or-above college level work.  

Course Format

This course is divided into 5 Modules.

The first five weeks of the course will cover Modules 1 to 5.

The final week of the course, Week 6, is set aside for you to catch up on the previous modules, if needed.

Each module will contain some or all of the following components: video lectures, readings, handouts, discussion forums, and quizzes.

Will a Statement of Accomplishment be awarded?

There are two different levels of achievement available in this course:

• Statement of Accomplishment: You must earn an overall grade of 70% or better on the five quizzes.
• Statement of Accomplishment with Distinction: You must earn an overall grade of 90% or better on the five quizzes.

Note: You will receive a certificate reflecting the highest level of achievement you have earned. You will receive only one certificate. All certificates will display the signatures of the course instructors.
